Armaflex self-adhesive insulation: what it is and which variant to choose
Introduction
Armaflex is a closed-cell elastomer insulation material (Armacell) that helps prevent condensation while providing excellent thermal insulation. Thanks to its watertight cell structure, Armaflex doesn’t need a separate vapor barrier and retains its performance over time, even in humid conditions.
This guide focuses on applications where reliability and moisture control matter: automotive, campers/vanlife, marine, and industrial installations.
Armaflex variants (important note about XG)
The main variants in our range are:
- AF/Armaflex – premium option for condensation- and moisture-sensitive applications
- Armaflex HOME – successor/replacement of the former XG variant (XG is no longer produced)
- HT/Armaflex – for higher temperatures
- NH/Armaflex – halogen-free, commonly used for marine/railway requirements
Important corrections for names and sizes:
- AF is available from 3–25 mm
- HT is available from 10–25 mm
Camper and vanlife
Armaflex is popular for bus/camper builds because these are prone to condensation. Armacell and also Isotec often recommend type AF for campers, because the risk of condensation—and therefore mold—is higher.
- Helps reduce condensation on cold metal panels
- Reduces the chance of moisture problems and mold
- Suitable for walls, ceilings, and irregular shapes
Armaflex sheets/panels
Note: AF and HOME are not the same product, so don’t present them as identical “standard” panels.
- AF/Armaflex panels: 3–25 mm
- Armaflex HOME panels: successor to XG
- HT/Armaflex panels: 10–25 mm
- NH/Armaflex (halogen-free): for specific certifications/applications
Self-adhesive variants
Self-adhesive Armaflex (AF and HOME) has a peel-off liner and is popular for quick installation on clean, flat surfaces.
Note: XG is no longer produced; HOME is the successor.
Quick product selection
- Camper/vanlife: AF/Armaflex
- Automotive: AF/Armaflex
- Industrial applications: AF or HT (depending on temperature)
- Marine/railway: NH/Armaflex
FAQ – Is Armaflex suitable for high temperatures?
The temperature range depends on the variant:
- AF/Armaflex: condensation-sensitive/thermal applications (panels 3–25 mm)
- Armaflex HOME: successor to XG
- HT/Armaflex: higher temperatures (panels 10–25 mm)
- NH/Armaflex: halogen-free, often used for marine/railway
Conclusion
Armaflex combines insulation performance with condensation prevention. HOME is the replacement for XG, and for campers AF is recommended due to the higher condensation risk. For higher temperatures choose HT, and for halogen-free requirements (marine/railway) choose NH.
